Coral Gables to Reduce Property Taxes 3rd Year in a Row

While other communities continue to struggle with higher taxes and cuts in services, the Coral Gables City Commission has just approved the millage rate reduction proposed by City Manager Pat Salerno and endorsed by Mayor Jim Cason. Coral Gables City Hall

For the 3rd year in a row, the City of Coral Gables has been able to cut the millage rate, resulting in a reduction in property taxes without sacrificing the high quality of city services the residents have come accustomed to receiving.cutting taxes

Mayor Cason said, “Although its a challenge to reduce the millage rate and still have the necessary funds to maintain and enhance the services residents enjoy, I believe the proposed budget accomplishes the needs of our residents while keeping us on the path to economic sustainability“. The city will be hiring 7 new police officers for the field which will increase the number of sworn officers to the highest level in city history.

The new budget also includes nearly $10 million in Capital Improvements, part of which will be the acquisition of additional green space for parks, the restoration of the city founders’ Merrick House and improvements to the Youth Center and new streetscape beautification projects.
