The City of Miami is credited as being the “Gateway of the Americas” due to its plethora of foreign-born residents, its strong cultural ties to Latin America and the nearby Caribbean, and its tremendous Spanish-speaking population. Due to its strong cultural and economic ties to Latin America, Miami boasts a large Latin American population that further adds evidence to the claim of Miami resembling a cultural, and furthermore bilingual, melting pot.

Representing one of the country’s top financial institutions and exhibiting a large participation in international business due to its strong cultural and linguistic ties, as well as convenient location amongst Latin American counties, Miami serves as the home to many United States as well as Latin American corporate headquarters. A few corporations of particular note are Burger King, Ryder, cruise lines such as Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruises, and Bacardi. With an abundance of beautiful beaches and coastline, stimulating nightlife, tropical climate and boasting the number one cruise port in the world, the Port of Miami; it is no surprise that Miami’s economy is also strongly based upon its tourism.
